An Evening at „Ford’s Garage“

Ford’s Garage restaurant opened its new location in Cape Coral in the summer of 2013, and we recently spent an enjoyable evening there.

You may have heard the saying a burger is “just” a burger, but you’ll find that’s definitely not the case at Ford’s Garage. Your taste buds will be dancing with delight when you order one of their famous (and huge) burgers: Choose from Black Angus & American Kobe, turkey, chicken, tuna, seafood or vegetarian, coupled with all natural aged cheeses and gourmet toppings. Ford’s Garage also serves a variety of entrees including steaks, pasta, and ribs. Their lighter fare features crispy salads (again: huge!), grilled chicken, turkey and fresh fish.

To quench your thirst, Ford’s Garage offers over 100 different types of bottled craft beers and over 20 drafts with a heavy influence of American craft beers from all around the country.

Once you’re done eating, be sure to walk around and check out the memorabilia hanging on the walls. Have your picture taken by the antique Ford cars or truck that hang over the two bar areas. The automobile theme continues everywhere you look, from the napkins (striped rags, and the napkin ring is a hose clamp) to the faucet in the bathroom (a gas pump handle).

Ford’s Garage has an established location in Downtown Fort Myers and will shortly be opening a third restaurant at the Miromar Outlets in Estero. At any of these locations, there’s no doubt that you’ll encounter “The Ultimate Burger Experience”!  Oh, did we mention, their fries are so yummy too!  Would we go back…DEFINITELY!  It’s 5-star food at a 4-star price.

Lunch at “Wine & Roses”

Lunch at „Wine & Roses“

Right on Cape Coral Pkwy, shortly before the Del Prado Blvd intersection, you’ll find this charming restaurant, where Italian cuisine is served at reasonable prices. The lunch menu includes several pasta dishes, sub sandwiches, the obligatory hamburgers and some rather delicious wraps. For dinner, you can also order pizza and choose from a large number of other dishes: fish, chicken, and a huge variety of pasta, naturally. The extensive wine menu shows that the name of the restaurant wasn’t just pulled out of a hat.

Despite the location on a main street with a high traffic volume, the restaurant atmosphere is quiet, the service friendly and remarkably unobtrusive – which will be appreciated by anyone who finds the typical service, with the waiter popping up every five minutes at your table, just slightly annoying.

We enjoy lunch frequently at “Wine & Roses.” Each time, we think about trying something different, only to end up with the tuna wrap once again. Delizioso!

Great Seafood Served by the Lobster Lady

Based on the recommendation of several friends and the fact that there are frequently lines out the door at dinnertime – always a sign that the food is decent – we chose the “Lobster Lady” on Cape Coral Pkwy / corner of Chiquita Blvd as this month’s destination.

 One word: Fantastic!

The restaurant includes a fish market, which creates a somewhat mixed interior, with a new, large wooden bar and fish tanks on one side and a display case full of seafood on the other, and tables arranged in between. If elegant ambience is your thing, you will probably be disappointed; if you don’t particularly care about the ambience as long as the food is good, head for the Lobster Lady.

Service was very friendly and we quickly received the bread. The entrees took a little longer, but were well worth the wait. We had ordered the fish tacos and the trout almondine. Both dishes were nicely presented and tasted wonderful, even to the picky eater. Other patrons had raved about the shrimps and lobster dishes, and if you don’t enjoy seafood, there is also chicken and burgers on the extensive menu. A large selection of wine and beer is also available.

Prices for most entrees hover around $10 – $15, which is quite a deal considering that two sides are included. You can choose between salads, vegetables, potatoes, rice etc. The portion was large enough for us to accept the offer of a box to take the rest home.

The desserts sound most delicious and range from traditional fare like Key Lime pie and cheesecake to rather unusual items such as bread pudding and lemon cake. We did not try them this time, but will do so when we go back – soon. See you there!

Fresh and Delicious: Lunch at Brew Babies

1520 Lafayette Street, Cape Coral

„„Hey, do you know that new restaurant with the funny name?“ one of my friends asked me a few years ago. “Brew… something. Really good food and there’s a courtyard like you might find in a restaurant in Germany“. Indeed the Brew Babies Garden Bistro offers a picturesque courtyard with tropical plants and colorful decorative accents where patrons can enjoy superb food.

I go there frequently for lunch – the restaurant is conveniently located on Lafayette Street in Downtown Cape Coral – and usually order the delicious tomato basil soup or the chicken salad wrap, a tasty, creative dish involving nuts, grapes and yoghurt dressing. Indeed the entire menu is very inspired and miles away from the standard fare of burgers and fries that many other local restaurants offer for lunch.

Brew Babies Garden Bistro is of course open for dinner as well, with an expanded menu and live jazz on weekends. The prices are not exactly cheap (for example my chicken wrap runs $11, which is somewhat high for a lunch item; at dinnertime, entrees are approximately $25 – $30), but the outstanding food is worth every penny. Give it a try next time you’re in Cape Coral!

Open Tue- Sat, 11 am – 10 pm
